Miami Dolphins Vs. Baltimore Ravens Recap

With another chance to “control their own destiny” the Miami Dolphins will likely be on the outside looking in again when the post season rolls around. Miami entered Sunday’s game vs the Baltimore Ravens tied in a log jam of teams at 7-5. Basically the Dolphins just needed to win 3 out of their next 4 games to secure a playoff spot. With an away game vs. The New England Patriots looming that seems like a pipe dream.

Miami led Baltimore 10-0 late in the 2nd quarter before totally falling asleep at the wheel. After Miami ‘s 10-0 start in the first quarter they were out gained by Baltimore 402-128 yards. After a decent start on the ground miami only rushed the ball 3 times in the 2nd half. 3 Carries!!. Going against one of the more formidable pass-rush defenses in the league Miami opted for a pass heavy gameplan which resulted in 5 sacks on Ryan Tannehill who was under  direst for much of the game. Miami ‘ s defense didn’t have much room to talk either. Miami’s defense which is in the top 10 of all major statistical categories allowed 4 scoring Drives of 75 yards or more. The most significant being a 12 play 97 yard touchdown that Baltimore ended with a Joe Flacco touchdown pass from the 2 yard line with just 8 seconds left in the first half.

Miami was again without starting Cornerback Cortland Finnegan who has missed the last 3 games with an ankle injury. His replacement RJ Stanford gave Miami their lone turnover on the day when he intercepted Flacco in the 2nd quarter. Miami almost got another turnover inside the Baltimore red zone when Oliver Vernon sacked Flacco causing a fumble inside the 5 yard line. The play would be turned over however as the referee’s ruled that Flacco’ s arm was going forward as the ball came out.

Miami still has an outside chance at making the playoffs. If New England loses against the San Diego Chargers the Dolphins would be a game behind New England with a match up between the teams on the horizon. Of Miami’s 3 remaining games two are at home. Week 16 against the Minnesota Vikings and the season finale vs. the New York Jets.
